Hi,

My wonderful wife has been hinting that she may buy me a DO for my birthday coming up.  Her (our) funds are limited, so I am looking for advice on a reasonable price on a good DO and where to buy it.  I see Lodge in most of the local sporting goods and hardware stores, along with Camp Chef.  It looks like a Lodge 12" would be about $80.  I also saw Cabelas advertising one with their private lable (made in China, I believe) for a little cheaper, but shipping would make it about the same price.

I had a 10 inch DO previously that I used quite a bit.  Last time I saw it my ex had planted some very lovely flowers in it.   Roll Eyes!

I'm thinking either another 10 or a 12.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Hopefully, I'll have it all broken in by IRG.

I've always avoided aluminum, but I heard the anodized ones are pretty good???

Thanks!

Gil,
Most recipes out there are written for a 12" oven.
Ebay can sometimes yeild good results even with the shipping, but check shipping first before bidding. Yard and garage sales are a good place to find an oven for cheap, but you just never know when you're gonna stumble upon one.
Good Luck!!!

My wife must have been looking over my shoulder when I typed the request for advice.  Today she went to Ace Hardware and bought a new 12" Lodge 6 qt. with a carry bag.  They gave her a pretty good deal on it, so she pulled the trigger.

Thanks for the advice.  I was watching several DOs on ebay, but with shipping they were going close to what she paid for the one at Ace, and it is nice to deal with the locals here when it makes sense to.  Plus, being able to take it back if it is defective is nice, also.

I'm happy! Grin

Gil,
I found this Link for a site that's taking orders for Camp Chef's Pony Express Limited Edition Cookware, which is set to hit the market anytime now. (Order before 3-15-10 and get the 12" for $49.99)

But Hey...You can't go wrong with a 12" Lodge.
Good Deal!!!

I have a 12 in. 6 qt. Dutch Oven.  Just 2 of us plus a potluck from time to time.

Should I have a 2d oven?  If so, what size.
