The dutch oven potluck we do on Saturday during the event will most likely bring together over 100 dutch ovens in very close proximity to one another.
Tagging your ovens is strongly recommended... Making it easy for you to relocate your oven and lid after the potuck is over. We've had a few people's lids get mixed up in the past. Although, each lid eventually found their rightful owner, it did cause stress for those with missing lids.

Any suggestions on a good method of tagging? I saw some at ITG3 with a round brass tag but never asked anyone where to get one.

Kevin,
Most folks stop by a locksmith shop or hardware store for the brass tags.
Mike B. from Idaho showed me a neat trick to attach them using a standard split key ring.
The split ring obviously gets stretched out when tagging the lid handle, because the handle on a DO lid is way fatter than a key...
What you do once you have the ring secured to the tag and lid handle, is take a pair of needle nose pliers and reverse the split from one side of the ring to the other... Kinda like turning a spring inside out.
What this does is it tightens the split ring back together and makes it look normal again, but actually, it makes the splits tighter than they were to begin with.
I hope I described this so you can understand what I'm talking about... If not we can show you at the gathering.
The other alternative is to just use wire and twist the end together with a pair of pliers to secure the tag to the oven & lid.

Tag/mark your serving utensils as well...sometimes they end up in other ovens, just an idea.  Doug

Yes, please George...bring your stamps.  Also, any tags and I will pay you back for those.  Some of our local FDOS members would like to get tags made, so I can take back some to them with their initials or numbers on them.   The tags are a great way to keep your DO and lid together.

Also, another great way I saw (Thanks, K.K.) was to put your dog's old metal license on the handle, or an old key to mark your oven.

I want everyone to ignore this thread and bring your untagged ovens to the potluck! I carry extra tags with my initials on them and put them on any untagged pots. How do you think I got all that cast iron I haul around???

You can also use a stainless steel washer if you can't find brass key tags...

If you go to Petco or other big box pet stores they have machines with dog tags you can make with your name and number.  This would work for your D.O.'s that D for dog tag. Grin
