Plans are firming up for people coming to the IRG and as we head into Spring this site will be a gathering place for those planning the redwood journey. As the site admin and planners see who is registering, what ages, what direction folks are coming from, that will help us shape the events and activities that will be offered. We'd also like to allow you time and some opportunities to venture out during the days to the nearby countryside and ..... see a Victorian Village, fish, or take a visit to the beach and ocean. At this stage, we are filling up on ideas and working out what would be best for the group and for individuals attending.
Let us know what you'd be interested in doing such as a small group day trip somewhere close. Others might just kick back at the grove and enjoy the river, visiting with other teardroppers or doing some of the on-site activities. A sampling of a few so far includes Banana Slug races, Forest Scavenger Hunts, nature walks, horseshoes, volleyball, a contest to see who can make-up a bed in a teardrop the fastest, "fishY" stories, food and cooking with a Dutch Oven demo (tentative Sat. a.m.). I plan to have an area near the cookshack for a kid's corner where those of you with youngsters, or just young at heart, can help yourself to the Kid Kit. I'll post a sign up sheet for anyone interested in doing relays, playing games, checkers/chess, cards, cribbage, etc.
We are planning on having campfires each night at the main cookshack area. Friday will be "Meat" Night for dinner and we are trying to set up a deep pit dinner for you that night. If this doesn't happen, the back up plan is to fire up the jumbo grills and bring up your own steak, chop, burger, shishkabob, veggies, or whatever you'd like to grill up, and have a group dinner around the campfire. Saturday night will be the Main Event of the IRG Gathering with a Dutch Oven Potluck and Group Pictures. You can bring a cushion or your own folding chair up to the nightly campfires or sit around on the wooden benches. I'd also like to suggest an early morning coffee Klatch up there too. For those crack of dawn risers who don't want to start up their own stove > Bring a cup, and a sample of your favorite morning "joe" and come up to the kitchen for a cup of someone else's. Water will be on and ready up in the 'Early Bird Redwood Cafe'. Good chance to visit with other TDers and let those in your own camp sleep in later if they'd like. There will be some goodies to eat each morning as well because you just might need a snack before you go back to the tear and fix breakfast.
I'll be placing more things on the site in the coming months for those of you who like to know ahead of time about the place you are going to...... I know I like to find out about things and know before I go is my philosophy, so tell me if you have a particular question or concern that I can help with. You'll be in the heart of the redwoods, and they yours.
