Hi Eunice!

That would be me who cooked the Shepherd's Pie. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it. The nice thing is that it is easy as can be. Here is the recipe. If you remember my friend Kelly, it's her original recipe (I improved on it though  Cheesy  Cheesy )

Shepherd’s Pie

This is a spicy layered dish that has a layer of spicy meat in a tomato sauce, a layer of mashed potatoes, and topped with a layer of melted cheese. It is cooked more by personal taste than by recipe, so adjust to meet your tastes. I like mine really spicy so I add lots of chili powder and a bit of cayenne pepper. You will want to start the potatoes cooking, then make the meat mixture. That way the two parts will get done about the same time.

2 lb Hamburger
1 lb Sausage
Medium onion - diced
7 oz can green chilies
2 cans tomato sauce
1 small can green beans
1 lb Cheddar cheese - grated
3 lb Potatoes – peeled
Milk
Butter

Salt
Pepper
Chili powder
Cumin
Garlic powder
Cayenne pepper (optional)

Peel potatoes and boil until tender.
Start frying hamburger, sausage and onions together
Add chili powder, garlic and cumin
Add green chilies towards the end of frying
Continue cooking until done
Drain off grease
Drain green beans and add to meat
Add just enough tomato sauce to make a very thick sauce.
Mix together
Drain and mash potatoes with milk and butter
Spoon mashed potatoes directly on top of the meat mixture
Liberally sprinkle cheddar cheese on top of the potatoes
Bake until the cheese melts

 K & J, Yours was a tasty dish at the IRG.  At the Apple Harvest Festival a DO a competitor did one, but I don't know if Dean got their recipe or not.  This dish is one of my favorites from way back...such comfort food.

I didn't get the recipe, but it was Larry, AKA Sweating Eagle who made that at the Apple Festival. I'm sure I could roust him into showing me his recipe... It won the main dish category too.
