What facilities are available in the park?  Bath/shower house?  water?
I think I remember reading there is no electricity. Is this so?

Just wondering what to expect.

Linda,
There is no electricity available in the camp sites, the cookshack is wired but requires a generator (Dean has the generator covered) There are a number of water taps located around the campground and there are pit toilets (no showers) in the upper and lower levels of the campground.
There is another county campground a short distance down the road that has coin op hot showers available for anyone who is registered at Pamplin Grove. There is also the Van Duzen river that flows through the park for anyone wishing to swim. I hope this answers your questions.

 Dear Linda,

Last year we sponsored the rustic shower complete with bottled water.  Everyone who used it said it was a good one and served it's purpose...,well except for the guy who ran out of propane right in the middle of his....but we had a replacement ready so his exposure time was minimum.

Dean wants to do the shower again this year since we have the stuff and we'll hook it up to the bottled water....only in California, right??
Some people just drove the short distance and went to the pay for use showers (bring your quarters/towel).  Bathing is permitted in the river using biodegradable soap, of course.

What is the weather like there in July. Those that have A/C, do you use/need it?

Man it was hot going up there but my wife and I couldn't spend much time in the trees because it was cold for us desert dwelers. We parked out of the trees and camped by the river. You couldn't have had better weather there. One of the best vacations I ever had.

             AC in the Redwoods in July ??!!

The year of the first IRG there was a heat wave crossing the southwest.  And yes, we got caught up in it.

It was in the upper 60's and even hit the 70 mark one day.   :veryhappy:
AC, not likely, unless your TD gets really stuffy or you want to try out a new one you installed.  The folks above from Arizona had a great spot to camp out from under the trees, and as EM mentioned, they were from the desert and found the temperature just right.  We heard this refrain echoed from others who'd crossed through some record highs to get to us.  The year '06 the weather angels smiled down on us and gave us a perfect week for the redwoods.  It will rarely reach the mid-70's in the Redwoods, but we could get another warm spell like in 2006.  Check out the weather link and see the archives on this site for more info about what went on there.

South of San Francisco on the way up to the gathering we spent two hours trying to find ice to replenish the ice chest. At the same place, the road to the campground was clogged with folks trying to get to the beach to cool off.

OK I read on another thread on the T&TTT that liquid fuel powered stoves and lanterns are not allowed on some campgrounds in CA due to the drought conditions. Is this true? Cause if it is I need to get new equipment.

Thanks

You'll be fine Mandy... We're in extreme Northern California in the coastal range... cooler ambient temps than elsewhere inland.

Mandy...like Dean sez...you won't have any problem.  Liquid fueled stoves and lanterns aren't allowed out in the national forest in unregulated campgrounds, but that is only when the fire restrictions are in effect...BBQ's are also not allowed at that time.  In a forest service campground they are allowed.  Doug

I've got 2 Coleman lanterns that go with me every where, I got one of them when I was 15 (makes it 32 years old) and the other is about that old too. They've never had anything done to them but had mantles put on them.
I can't get my dad to give up his 3 burner stove and I can't find one of them any where.

Rich...I've got a premium 3 burner that was given to me about 10 years ago...works perfectly...want it?  It's probably a 60's vintage, don't have the model # on it right now....  I've got 4 Coleman stoves and don't need it or use it...buy me an ale and it's yours guy, or better yet...say something on the forum nice about my paint choice!  I can get pics if you're interested.   Doug
